After much consideration, we are shifting our approach to the Community Food Pantry. Rather than hosting one here at Unity, we are partnering with Parker Subaru to provide free food via their 24-hour public pantry on the corner of Government Way and W Clayton Avenue. This existing resource is better located and is restocked daily. In addition, Parker Subaru has staff on hand to maintain it. We will assist them by supplying unexpired, non-perishable food items to keep it stocked. Also, during mild weather, apples, oranges, potatoes, and onions are accepted. When selecting canned items such as tuna, stew, and soups, please choose those with pop-tops as they can be unsealed without a can opener. To contribute, bring your food donations to the Center on Sundays or on weekdays during office hours. Thanks.

When it is warm and sunny outside, your thoughts naturally turn to the joys of summer. Joys like picking your own vine ripened tomatoes and fresh salad greens right from the garden. If you like gardening but do not have the space at home, we have eighteen plots available. You can acquire one or more for the season for the low cost of $35 per plot. The fee covers the cost of supplying water for our drip irrigation system. As a community gardener, you will also have access to our wood chip pile, and the company and support of fellow gardeners! Although it is not required, we envision that our gardeners will produce such abundance that they will consider contributing excess produce to our Unity food pantry. Since this is a COMMUNITY garden, please invite your friends and neighbors to participate. Plots are offered on a first come first serve basis. To reserve plots, call Audra at 208-667-7300 or Jerilyn at 208-664-1125.
Like many non-profits, Family Promise of North Idaho is struggling to keep needed funds flowing during the shutdown. Due to constraints brought on by the pandemic, they are unable to hold public fundraising events right now. Therefore, if you support their mission, please consider sending them a check or donating from their website FamilyPromiseNI.org. If you are contributing by mail, send your check to P.O. Box 3682, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho 83816.
