Higher Reaches of Ethical Living

Synopsis: The ancient Chinese philosopher, Confucius said the most sacred question one can ask oneself is, “How do I live wisely and well.” That is a deep question. The basis of this question is driven by our ethics. This powerful concept is one of the most misunderstood of all spiritual practices. Reverend Michael Moran will expand on the benefits of ethical living this Sunday. We hope you will join us.

"Irrespective of whether we are believers or agnostics, whether we believe in God or Karma, everyone can pursue moral ethics."

- His Holiness the Dalai Lama

The ancient Chinese philosopher, Confucius said the most sacred question one can ask oneself is, “How do I live wisely and well.” That is a deep question. The basis of this question is driven by our ethics. The dictionary definition of ethics is “moral principles that govern a person's behavior.” We all have personal ethics. However, our personal view of what’s right or acceptable is generally driven by our own ego needs. This is natural given our conditioning. Ideally, however, we should aspire to evolve toward living and acting from a more wholistic viewpoint. Initially, this would mean shifting from an ego-centered to society-centered perspective. Ultimately, with sufficient practice and action, true masters achieve an ethical awareness that is world-inclusive-with a deep understanding of what is good for the whole and fair to the parts. Dr. Roger Walsh, in his book ESSENTIAL SPIRITUALITY, sums it up this way; “Ethical living -- when living large becomes a delight -- "helps us see through illusion, recognize our true self [and the true self of others and the true self of the world] and see beyond our self to our source." This powerful concept is one of the most misunderstood of all spiritual practices. Reverend Michael Moran will expand on the benefits of ethical living this Sunday. We hope you will join us.
