Gandhi's overall method of nonviolent activism is known as Satyagraha or Soul Force. Satyagraha is the force that is generated through strict adherence to Truth. It is unwavering even in the face of extreme adversity. For Gandhi, it was critically necessary to hold firmly to this idea. In his mind, it was the only way for the disenfranchised Indian people to legitimately earn their political rights. It was also the way for Gandhi to know when his own thoughts and actions were pure. He believed that when applied correctly, Satyagraha is a form of struggle where there is no victory or defeat.

Satyagraha's legacy is significant. It has been used throughout the world to overcome injustice. For example, Martin Luther King used it successfully in the battle for civil rights in America. The principle is widely recognized as a more potent tool of resistance than armed violence. Reverend Michael Moran shares more of Gandhi’s nonviolent methods with a lesson on Satyagraha. He will show us how to align our thoughts, words and actions with Truth to overcome adversity in our own lives.
