The movement is an educational, media and grassroots awareness campaign. The purpose of the campaign is to focus educational and media attention on the philosophy of attaining peace through nonviolent action. The efficacy of peace through nonviolence is not in question. It has been successfully used by such legendary leaders a Mahatma Ghandi, Dr Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandela, and Cesar Chavez. Currently, His Holiness-the Dalai Lama employs this principle in his efforts to win back the independence of Tibet from China.
