Learning About Compassion

SYNOPSIS: What is compassion? What is it not? This Sunday will be a heart opening journey through the uncharted lands of compassion.
FEATURED MUSICIAN: Gina Reynolds
PODCAST:
This Sunday we begin our 6-week series on Compassion, based on Karen Armstrong’s book Twelve Steps to a Compassionate Life.  Karen Armstrong is a British author and commentator known for her books on comparative religion.  Her work focuses on commonalities of the major religions, such as the importance of compassion and the Golden Rule.

Armstrong received the US$100,000 TED Prize in February 2008. She used that occasion to call for the creation of a Charter for Compassion, which was unveiled the following year.

I had the opportunity to see and hear Karen Armstrong speak at the 2015 Parliament of the World Religions in Salt Lake City.  She is an inspired and passionate speaker.  It was at the Parliament that I was introduced to the international movement Armstrong as started through her Charter for Compassion.

We’ll start off this series by first of all learning about compassion.  What is it?  What is it not?  This is going to be a heart opening journey through the uncharted lands of compassion.

Our musicians supporting us on this exploration of compassion, is our featured soloist, stunning Gina Reynolds, backed up by our band Nick Halpin on drums; Gary Buettner playing bass;  Jim Turner, on guitar; and Gwen Gathercoal playing piano along with
singers Laura Wineteer and Mark Soss.

There is an old saying:  “You can’t really understand another person’s experience until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes.”  Come — walk the path of compassion with us.

Namaste,

Deidre
