Releasing the Old, Embracing the New

SYNOPSIS:  What thoughts about yourself or others do you no longer want to carry around or have rattling in your consciousness? This Sunday is your opportunity to start the new year with a clean slate by clearing these stifling energies and making room for a new and authentic you.
FEATURED MUSICIANS: Gary Edwards
PODCAST:
You are invited to Unity’s first of the year ritual of The Burning Bowl.  Everyone attending this Sunday’s service receives a piece of paper on which they will write those issues, situations, or ways of being one wants to let go of — those thoughts and behaviors that no longer serve us.  The paper is taken to a big bowl with a candle in it, and the paper is then burned by the flame, as a symbolic gesture of releasing the old to make way for the new.

It truly is a powerful ceremony and one that many people look forward to.  The  power of this ritual lies in becoming aware of what it is that we want to release.  What thoughts about ourselves or others do we no longer want to carry around or have rattling in our consciousness?  This is our opportunity to start the new year with a clean slate.  Sound simple?  It is AND we have to be willing to let the no-longer-useful go. It is said awareness is the first step for change.

Our featured musicians are guitarist Gary Edwards singing songs he has written along with guitarist Gary Buettner and a new drummer for us, Nick Halpin.  You won’t want to miss the stunning  Acapella group comprised of Mark Soss, Gina Reynolds, Laura Wineteer, Heather Ross, and Rob Rohlmeier. singing a beautifully haunting song called “Grace.”  You will be moved!

Remember this Sunday is New Year’s Day and we only have one service at 10:00 a.m.  After the service we’ll have a New Year’s Potluck Brunch.  Please bring a casserole to share or accompaniment dish of fruit or breakfast rolls.  I look forward to sharing the New Year Blessing of being together in community — there’s nothing like it to warm one’s heart.  See you Sunday.

Wishing you harmony, peace, good health and well-being now, throughout 2017 and beyond…
