Chanukah, The Miracle of the Lights

Synopsis: When Jesus was a boy his family would have celebrated Chanukah each year in his home by telling the powerful story of the victory of the weak over the powerful, good over evil, and the light driving out darkness. Much like the Christmas story, Chanukah is a joyous occasion filled with hope, life and miracles. Join us this Sunday as Reverend Michael Moran expands our understanding of “The Miracle of the Lights”.
Presented by: Reverend Michael Moran
With music by: Gary Edwards and special guest vocalist Ellie Holms

When Jesus was a boy his family would have celebrated Chanukah each year in his home by telling the powerful story of the victory of the weak over the powerful, good over evil, and the light driving out darkness. Chanukah is more commonly known to most Americans as Hanukkah. It literally means "dedication" in the Hebrew language. To non-Jews, it is known as the eight-day celebration during which Jews light a menorah; eat special foods like latkes (potato pancakes) and sing songs of the season. For the Jewish people, this holiday signifies the victory of the Maccabees over the armies of Syria in 165 B.C.E. and the subsequent liberation and "rededication" of the Temple in Jerusalem. Much like the Christmas story, Chanukah is a joyous occasion filled with hope, life and miracles.

Our musical guest this week is Gary Edwards. There will also be a special song to be sung by Ellie Holm. Our music ensemble will also include our accomplished music director Gwen Gathercoal on piano, keyboard and vocals; along with Gary Buettner and Jim Turner on guitar and Dagan Williamson on drums.

Bring more light to the world.
