May 12 is Mother’s Day, a day that can bring mixed emotions depending on your relationship(s) with the mother or mother figure(s) in your life. The point is that no one has an operator's manual on how to be a perfect parent. The key is to remember that however you experience(d) motherhood, there are specific steps you can take to move deeper into love.

The ancient Greeks talked of storge love and agape love to describe the rarity, the uniqueness, the impossible-to-describe love that flows between a mother and a child. Taoism calls this extraordinary love "The Mother of the World." While Jainism reveals that this perfect love leads to liberation and growth--not just for the child but for the mother, as well.

The lesson title, "Just Jump in the Water” is used as a metaphor for this incredible love that surrounds Mother's Day. What it suggests is that you need to take the plunge and take a chance on love. And don’t be tentative. Instead, start right out there in the deep end of the pool. And when you do, the rewards of loving and of being loved will boggle your mind.

Join Reverend Dennis Ashley this Sunday for a lesson on the extraordinary love that is evoked on Mother's Day.

You can join us in person or watch the service on our live stream feed.

Our ensemble features vocals by Julie Croteau, Patty Ashley, and Laura Wineteer. They will be accompanied by LeeAnn Aerlyn-Moore.
