Ernie Hawks’ passion for the outdoors and all the elements has been with him all his life. He learned early from his mother the pure esthetics and the beauty of nature. From his father he learned hunting skills. The love of the natural world simply for the sake of the wonder it brings feeds his enthusiasm for life. The hunting skills he transferred into outdoor photography, because he wanted the trophy without the mess and carry-out of a kill.
As a young adult he discovered, after years of resistance, he was on a spiritual journey with a divine purpose and was not just lumbering through a human existence. He also realized all the nature he loves is also Spirit with a divine purpose.
This changed his perspective on nature and how he is part of it. With this new understanding he writes of the lessons nature teaches us, we are one with the universe.
Ernie’s work has been published in Science of Mind magazine, Creative Thought magazine, The River Journal and several spiritual newsletters. His book “Every Day is a High Holy Day: Stories of an Adventuring Spirit” is a collection of some of his stories written over several years. “Every Day is a High Holy Day” is available in several church bookstores, bookstores throughout the Northwest and on Amazon or Kindle.
Ernie lives in a log home on timberland in rural North Idaho. His favorite room is the covered front porch. From there he writes of his experiences of nature and of family. While not in the wild “doing research” hiking, camping and taking pictures, he uses the porch as a place to listen and observe while being part of Spirit.
