Nancy Nelson-Walz was born at Edwards Air Force Base when her father was a test pilot there. Her early life experiences took her from California to Taiwan, then back to Arizona, Washington, Nevada, Colorado and Las Angeles. She attributes her ease with making friends to those early family moves and adaptions.
Nancy entered her first Unity church in 1967 at 10 years old shortly after her parents divorced. She and her family have continued as active members pretty much ever since.
After her mother remarried, to a Religious Science Minister in 1972, her family dynamic changed, both her siblings fled the nest and Nancy, Mom, and the Rev. then found their selves in the big city of Los Angeles.
She completed the first-year course of Science of Mind in the 11th grade while she attended an 80% black high school. Upon graduation, she was awarded the Scott Ballou “Brotherly Love Award” from LA High School.
In 1978, she received her Associates Degree in Public Relations from LACC shortly after her sister had a traumatic head injury which lead to Nancy and her Mother co-raising her nephews, then 4 and 1.
Nancy worked at a non-profit alternative school for many years in the San Fernando Valley of LA that was based on the Universal Principles of Peace, Truth, Beauty, and Love.
After traveling across the country in ’84 with the Gandhi Foundation raising money for schools in India, she finished her Bachelors in Sports Recreation in 1986 from the University of Massachusetts in Amhurst.
She didn’t meet her wonderful husband Loren, till the end of 1994 after she had been running her own Kirby Vacuum business in Seattle for eight years. They then opened Kirby of CDA where they continue to service all makes and stock supplies for all vacuums.
Nancy also delivered mail in Rathdrum, ID from 2001-2021 then retired.
She is the current president of Turkeys & More a 501c3 that distributes over 2000 turkeys at Thanksgiving to over 20 food banks in Kootenai County.
Loren Walz and Nancy were married in 2009 at their place on Twin Lakes, and are living happily ever after.
